Britney
Spears became an entertainer at the early age of 8 when
she auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club on the Disney Channel,
although producer thought she was too young, they helped
her find a talent agent and she and her family moved to
New York to pursue Britney’s career. Three years later,
Britney Spears auditioned again for the same show and this
time she was accepted and the whole family packed up and
went to Orlando, FL where the show was being taped. Britney’s
passion however was never in acting, she wanted to use her
star talent for a recording career and at age 15, she went
back to New York and auditioned for Jive Records. It was
an instant partnership and over the next two years, Britney
began working on her debut album.
Her
debut, Baby One More Time, was released in 1999 and due
to her constant promotion across the nation, the album went
straight to the top of the charts with the hit single, “Baby
One More Time.” Her racy video, showcasing Britney
in a short schoolgirl style outfit with matching braids,
got intensive airplay on MTV and made her the new teen “it”
girl. By September, her debut album had sold more than 6
million copies. Spears didn’t stop there, after taking
over the pop airwaves, she released Oops…I Did It
Again in 2000 and sold 1.3 million copies in the first week
alone. The album became historic by claiming the record
of top selling debut album by a female artist.
Britney
Spears concert tickets have sold rather well for her tours
throughout the US and the world. She headlines at some of
the largest venues in major cities and sells out within
minutes. Her popularity with the teen and tween demographic
have helped boost her sales, however; in the past 5 years
she has tried to crossover to reach a more mature audience.
She release her third album, Britney, in 2001 and although
it did not have the same track record as her previous two
albums, it went further with the critics and her attempt
to reach an older demographic was not unnoticed. Currently,
Spears is on hiatus to spend time with her newborn and family
but when she decides to come back, with her record sales,
it could mean more record breaking for the young pop diva.
